Speed appears to have been a factor in the death of a Sturgis woman who perished in a single-vehicle crash earlier this week in Nottawa Township.
Sheriff Chad Spence said deputies observed a vehicle shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday driving at a high rate of speed southbound on Nottawa Road.
Deputies attempted to catch up to the vehicle to initiate a traffic stop but lost sight of the automobile. While searching for the vehicle, deputies were dispatched to the area of Nottawa Road and Park Road, just south of the M-86 intersection, in response to a report of a single-vehicle crash.
The driver, a 19-year-old female from Sturgis, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The victim’s name was not released. Investigators said alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
