Groundbreaking ceremony held for downtown amphitheater

Three Rivers municipal officials and members of the city’s Downtown Development Authority took part in a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday morning.

The fanfare marks the beginning of construction of the Three Rivers Outdoor Amphitheater.

The amphitheater is possible thanks to a Community Development Block Grant under the Public Spaces Initiative. The $1.9 million grant helps fund construction of the amphitheater, to be built along the Portage River on Joshua Drive in downtown Three Rivers.

Three Rivers City Commission members approved a loan from their general fund for the 10 percent match required for the grant.

The Three Rivers Community Foundation also committed $10,000 to the DDA toward the amphitheater cost.

  1. TR in need of infrastructure replacement and repair, including known lead-polluted water pipes, DOGE and MAGA slashing programs of necessity to thousands in the city and county but our leaders say we need an amphitheater costing over a million dollars with more $$$ to follow! Great stewardship and governance.

  2. I feel for the tax paying residents of TR. Just one more useless project that will need constant maintenance and truly is not needed. There are new, much nicer amphitheaters being built in Kzoo and GR. How about putting money into improving the city and not just pulling more people downtown. But then again all the commission (read Lowry) seem interested in is flushing more money down the DDA sinkhole.

  3. I agree Three Rivers does a lot of wasteful spending of taxpayers dollar.
