Joan E. Kelley , age 78, of Nottawa Township, died on Monday, March 10, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 8, 1946 in Kalamazoo, a daughter of Elbert and Lillie (Kirk) Herbert. Joan graduated from Parchment High School in 1965. On March 22, 1991 she married Robert A Kelley at the Nottawa United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death December 25, 2019.
Joan worked over 10 years at the St. Joseph County prosecutor’s office retiring in 2005. She previously worked in the Superintendent’s office at Colon Schools and for the Soil Conservation office in Centreville.
Joan loved birds, especially cardinals, and enjoyed golfing and bowling. She enjoyed going to deer camp and hunting with her husband Bob.
Surviving are her son Adam (Kimberly) Huskey; daughter Lori (John Pedersen) Koutny; step children Patrick (Beth) Kelley, Connie Kelley, Sandra Kelley Gieber and Dr Sharon Kelley; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; 1/2 sister Kay Lynn Rooney; 1/2 brother Elbert Herbert II and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert Kelley; Adam and Lori’s father Curtis Huskey, twin sister Jean Heath; sisters Cindy Workman and Patricia Eikmeier; and brother Bill DeForest.
According to her wishes cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends will be received Saturday March 22, 2025 from 10 to 11 am at Eley Funeral Home in Centreville, where Memorial Services will begin at 11:00. Chaplain Scott Southerland of Heartland Hospice, will officiate. A potluck reception will follow at St. Joseph County F.O.P Lodge from 12 to 2 pm.
