Keith Klingensmith, age 88, died on Saturday, March 29, 2025. He was born on May 28, 1936 in Ferndale, Michigan to Arthur Densmore Klingensmith and Gladys Catherine Smith. He grew up in Ferndale before relocating to Three Rivers 20 years ago to be closer to family.
On November 9, 1957, Keith married Roberta Jane Dujardin in the Detroit area. Together, they shared a life full of love and laughter until her passing. Their bond was one of unmatched devotion, and Keith was a loving and dedicated caregiver to her throughout their years together. That same deep love and devotion extended to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who affectionately called him Papa and Papa the Great.
Keith dedicated his career to the City of Ferndale, where he worked in the Forestry Department for many years. Outside of his professional life, he had a warm and inviting personality that made people smile, often making others laugh without even trying. Keith had many passions, including a love for dogs, landscaping, and spending time in the yard. He enjoyed playing golf and had an impressive collection of golf clubs. A sports fan, he took great pleasure in watching the Detroit Tigers, and he was also an avid reader and music lover, especially enjoying the soulful sounds of The Commodores. As a car enthusiast, Keith had a deep appreciation for vintage cars.
Keith is survived by his children: Keith (Kristin) Klingensmith of Sturgis and Dawn (Cal) Elkins of Three Rivers; his grandchildren: Amanda (Steven) Hutchins-Johnson, Michael (Michelle) Elkins, Renee (Justin) Sumpter, Haley (Michael) Hogoboom, Richard (Krista) Klingensmith, Sean Klingensmith, and Hannah Klingensmith; and his great-grandchildren: Ezra Hutchins, Emma Elkins, Allie Elkins, Eleanor Hutchins, Lilly Elkins, Calvin Elkins, Daisy Sumpter, Otto Sumpter, Issac Klingensmith and Dean Klingensmith; several nieces and nephews.
Keith was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years Roberta Klingensmith, parents an siblings: Delores “Dodie”, Robert “Bob” and Cheryl “Bunny”.
There will be a private family viewing at Ray Funeral Services, with burial to follow at Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley, MI on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 1:00.
