Nottawa Township honors Eagle Scouts

Nottawa Township Board members on Monday recognized two teenagers for their community service work that helped the duo earn their Eagle Scout.

Sturgis resident Hope Collins, 18, and Centreville’s Aiden Kohlhoff, a 17-year-old Centreville High School senior, are just the second and third recipients of the township’s William Dobrowolski Memorial Citizenship Award, established in 2016.

Collins, a freshman at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, is St. Joseph County’s first female Eagle Scout recipient.

She and Kohlhoff were recognized for their work on restoring a 140-year-old sextant’s building at the township’s Prairie River Cemetery. They replaced its roof, removed years of ivy growth that was covering the building and painted its sides.

The three-day task took place last August.

Meanwhile, Dobrowolski’s widow, Jody, was on hand to congratulate the two.
