Stephan Mark Butz, Jr., age 53 of Marcellus, passed away Monday afternoon, March 24, 2025, at his home.
He was born July 31, 1971 in Sturgis, son of Stephan Mark and Patricia (Twitchell) Butz, Sr.
Steve was a talented tree climber and trimmer working for several area tree trimming companies. For 20 years he worked as a lift operator at Swiss Valley Ski and Snowboard Area.
He enjoyed snowboarding, woodworking, gardening, fishing, grilling and building automobile models.
He is survived by his soulmate of over 25 years: Julie Watts; daughter: Marie Butz of Marcellus; son: Mark Butz of Cassopolis; expecting his first grandchild in September; mother: Patricia Sullivan of Elkhar; brothers: Jeffrey Butz of Constantine, Charles Sullivan and Randall Sullivan, both of Elkhart and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, sister: Christina Butz, and his grandparents.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 on Saturday, March 29th, at Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St. in Sturgis. In honoring Stephan’s wishes cremation will follow the visitation.
