Two arrested on firearms charges

Two people were arrested earlier this week on charges related to possession of stolen firearms.

Cass County Sheriff’s Department officials said deputies conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle around 3 p.m. Monday on School Street in Cassopolis.

According to authorities, detectives had information that the subjects inside the vehicle were in possession of stolen firearms.

Deputies arrested 18-year-old Jacob Morrison, of Cassopolis, and a 17-year-old juvenile after they were questioned about what turned out to be several stolen firearms and ammunition traced to a January break-in at Hayden’s Hardware in Cassopolis.

Morrison was charged with possession of stolen firearms, authorities said. Meanwhile, the juvenile was charged with breaking and entering, and possession of stolen firearms. He was released to the custody of his parent.
