Colon restaurant sold

A Colon institution is changing hands.

Kathy and Dan Earl have announced the sale of Curly’s, a local bar and restaurant they have owned for more than 40 years.

Kathy Earl said the sale is ongoing and she expects the transaction to be complete by the end of the month.

She said she intends to host a farewell open house prior to new ownership taking over. Earl said to watch Curly’s on Facebook for details about the impending open house.

Earl did not disclose the buyers, other than to say they are from Illinois and have a home on Palmer Lake. Earl noted the new owners plan to retain all current waitstaff.

The business was closed for a year due to a fire in March 2013. It opened a year later. She said Curly’s will be closed for a day at some point in the future to conduct inventory, Earl said.
