Dorothy J. Brown, age 78, of LaGrange, was surrounded by her family when she passed away peacefully Saturday morning, April 26, 2025, at Parkview LaGrange Hospital in LaGrange.
She was born on July 9, 1946, in Sturgis, daughter of the late Frank and Leona (Shafer) Sanderson.
Dorothy was a lifelong LaGrange resident. On February 20, 1966, she married Robert Lee “Brownie” Brown in St. Clair, Missouri. He preceded her in death April 15, 2009.
Dorothy retired from Freeman Manufacturing in Sturgis following many years of dedicated employment. Prior to joining Freeman Manufacturing, she had been employed by Greenfield Research and Dometic Corporation, both in LaGrange.
Dorothy had a gift for flower arranging. She was an avid reader and enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, especially the fishing trips to Minnesota with Chase, working in her vegetable gardens, and her cooking will be forever missed. Dorothy was happiest when she was surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandsons.
She is survived by her son: John (Allisa) Brown of Howe, Indiana; daughter: Jennifer (Craig Lowe) Fennell of Shipshewana; grandchildren: Austin (Stephanie Hause) Brown of Providence Village, Texas, Jordan (Nico) DiPinto of South Bend, and Chase (Jaymee) Fennell of Shipshewana; great grandsons: Coleman and Fisher Fennell; sister: Sandra Sue Garrison of Fort Wayne; brother: Charles Sanderson of LaGrange, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters: Judy Lewis and Sally Boyles; brother: William Sanderson and nephew: Wesley Boyles.
In honoring Dorothy’s wishes cremation has taken place. A private celebration of a life well lived will take place at a later date.
The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis, Michigan is entrusted with the arrangements.
