Former Paw Paw schools secretary charged

A former Paw Paw Public Schools secretary, arrested for allegedly stealing $27,000 from Child Care Resources, could face years in jail.

WWMT-TV said Danielle Taylor, 34, of Lawrence, was charged with one count of identity theft and one count of financial transaction device.

Prior to Monday’s arraignment, Portage Police Department investigated a fraud complaint in November after Child Care Resources reported several unauthorized transactions from its bank account.

Through the investigation, it was found that Taylor was paying rent, insurance and a car insurance, bills, Van Buren County Undersheriff Casey Davis said.

Taylor worked as a secretary at Paw Paw Public Schools’ Cedar Street Center for early childhood, adult, and alternative education. She was opening mail and stealing information from checks from Child Care Resources, according to WWMT.

Taylor was hired by Paw Paw Public Schools in 2023, during which she was being investigated for a separate embezzlement case out of Portage, according to Davis.
