Identity of fatal crash victim released

The identity of a Cass County man who died in a single-vehicle crash over the weekend has been released by sheriff’s deputies.

Sheriff Clint Roach said 71-year-old David Dussel, a Cassopolis resident, died at the scene of the incident, which occurred around 8 a.m. Saturday in the area of Mud Lake Street and Penn Road.

Investigators said Dussel was driving a vehicle east on Mud Lake Street, where it left the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle overturned as a result, Roach said.

Deputies and fire personnel attempted life-saving measures, but Dussel was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Authorities said Dussel was not wearing a seat belt.
