Karen Frischkorn, 82

Karen Ann Frischkorn, age 82, a beloved mother, wife, and friend, of Howe, IN, passed away on April 4, 2025, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Karen was born on March 22, 1943, in Flint, MI, to her Swedish parents, Hjalmer and Selma (Erickson) Bloomquist. She was the third of five sisters: Barbara, Sonja, Karen, Gloria, and Diane. Earning a Bachelor of Science degree as a Registered Nurse helped Karen gain her confidence. Soon after, she met Richard (Dick) Frischkorn, and they married on August 29, 1964.

They moved from Michigan to Tennessee, New Jersey, and California before returning to a tiny lake cottage in Wolcottville, IN, with four kids in tow in 1981, and finally relocating to Howe in 2002. She helped Richard build his business, Management and Tax Services, serving as an office administrator, customer relations manager, client generator, and more.

When Dick and Karen returned to Indiana, transformed by their religious experiences at Calvary Chapel in Napa, California, they sought like-minded individuals and discovered Maranatha Fellowship. The relationships formed there have endured over the years and remained dear to Karen as her co-seekers in Christ, encouragers, and friends. Her current membership at Radiant Life Church in Sturgis expanded Karen’s faith community; she has actively participated in the prayer ministry and life group ministry.

Karen embraced many roles in her life: daughter, nurse, wife, and mother, but her faith in Jesus served as her foundation. Her search for God was a daily pursuit through Bible study, prayer, church, and fellowship; she wanted to see and be part of everything God was doing. This shaped her worldview, expressed through unending optimism, positivity, kindness, and gentleness toward everyone she met. Her gift was encouragement – the ability to always see the very best in every person and situation and cheer them on, firm in the knowledge of God’s goodness and love for us. For all who loved her, her desire would be peace amid the heartache; she has gone willingly to her heavenly home.

Karen nurtured beautiful flower gardens around her home – a quiet reflection of her life that never sought external praise but always aimed to see and reflect the best and most beautiful in everyone. Like her garden, she raised her children with gentle care and love. She was immensely proud of her family: Jeffrey in King, NC (Director of Technical Services), Jennifer in Fort Wayne (Customer Account Specialist), Rebecca in Abu Dhabi, UAE (Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology and consultant in international development), and Michael in Fortville, IN (Attorney in Private Practice).

Karen is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dick Frischkorn; their children and spouses: Jeffrey and Angie Frischkorn, Jennifer Frischkorn and Randy Bluhm, Rebecca Frischkorn and Ed Rumsey, and Michael and Haley Frischkorn; four grandchildren: Sophie Frischkorn, Grace Frischkorn, Jack Frischkorn, and Linnea Frischkorn-Rumsey; and two sisters: Diane Lundwall of Sweden and Sonja Melrose of Fenton, MI.

A Celebration of Life is planned for June 28, 2025, at the Frurip-May Funeral Home, 309 West Michigan St. LaGrange, IN 46761 with a visitation being held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

A Memorial service will follow the visitation at 12:00.  Following the services, a reception will be held at Dick and Karen’s home, 7320 N State Road 9, Howe, IN 46746.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Youth for Christ in Sturgis, at https://yfccampuslife.com/give/ (please include a comment noting that it is in honor of Karen).
