Lucy Johnson, 89

Lucille Ellen “Lucy” Johnson, 89, of LaGrange, died on Friday, April 4, 2025, at her residence.

She was born on April 16, 1935, in East Gilead, Michigan, to Clarence J. and Vera (Henderson) Wooster.

Lucy worked at the Kirsch Company in Sturgis for 37 years. After her retirement, she babysat her grandchildren and some of the neighborhood kids.

She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Gray Panthers, volunteered at the LaGrange County Food & Clothes Basket, and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan.

Lucy was a long-time member of the East Springfield United Methodist Church.

On July 3, 1954, she married Dean Johnson in Fremont, Indiana. They celebrated 70 years of marriage last summer.

Surviving is her husband, Dean of LaGrange; a daughter, Linda Ellen (Jeff) Allen of Mendon; four sons, Norman (Deanna) Johnson, Mark (Judy Hicks) Johnson, Gary (Gwen) Johnson, all of LaGrange, and Jeff Johnson of Howe; nine grandchildren, Crissy (Gus) Alexander, Trisha (AJ) Tate, Dustin (Robin) Johnson, Megan (Kenneth) Jacoby, Tabatha Chrisman, Tiffany White, Devin (Chotsie) Johnson, Julia (Eugene) Troyer and Natasha (Josh) Teegardin; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Dawn Johnson in 1957; a sister, Helen Clay; and three brothers, Clarence Wooster, Kenneth Wooster and Lawrence Wooster.

Lucy was a radiant spirit, bringing joy to everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her laughter had a way of illuminating any room, filling it with warmth and happiness. Deeply anchored in her faith, she was a lifelong follower of Jesus Christ, embodying love and kindness in everything she did.

A visitation will be from 2- to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at the Frurip-May Funeral Home, 309 West Michigan St., LaGrange, Indiana.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at the funeral home.

The Rev. James Bartlett will officiate the services and burial will take place in Greenlawn Cemetery in Orland, Indiana.

Memorials may be given in Lucy’s memory to the East Springfield United Methodist Church.
