Michigan State University is sponsoring a training program centering on roles and responsibilities of a planning commission. The session is targeted specifically to St. Joseph County.
The 90-minute, in-person program focuses on the basics of planning commission for local, elected officials, and appointed officials and interested residents.
Specifically, attendees will learn the legal authority and limitations of a county planning commission; recognize the functions of a master plan and zoning ordinance; understand the role of every part of a planning commission; strengthen ethical, decision-making skills, apply standards to decision-making; and know when to ask for help.
