Robert Bartram Smith, age 56, of Mendon, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 in Kalamazoo. He was born in Augusta, GA on December 22, 1968 the son of Leo and Barbara (Bartram) Smith. Robert attended Coldwater High School and was part of the 1987 graduating class. Following graduation, he enrolled at the University of South Florida to further his studies. On May 17, 2003 he married Susan Cook in Coldwater.
Robert was an avid sports fan and loved competition. He loved his Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and his Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He played in many leagues to fulfill his competitive nature; slow pitch softball, golf, and bowling. When he wasn’t cheering for a team, or being on a team, he would coach his son’s little league teams. Robert simply loved sports (and every once in a while, WWE would make the cut). He enjoyed listening to classic rock music, especially U2. Robert loved his family very much and overwhelmingly loved and lived for his son, Liam.
Robert is survived by his wife; Susan Smith; his son; Liam Smith; his brother; Eric (Cindy) Smith; and extended family. He was preceded in passing by his parents; Leo and Barbara Smith; and his sister; Shaun Smith.
In keeping with family wishes cremation is being conducted. Visitation for the Smith family will take place on Sunday, May 4, 2025 from 1pm until 4pm at the Eickhoff Funeral Home (311 W Main Street, Mendon, MI 49072). A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025 at 11am at the funeral home. Following the service, burial will take place at Mendon Cemetery.
