4-H volunteer honored for 50 years of service

A Burr Oak woman is one of 10 volunteers being honored statewide by Michigan State University Extension for 50 years of service to Michigan 4-H.

Quentin Tyler, director of MSU Extension, said St. Joseph County is represented by Sharon Mitchell, who has spent five decades dedicated to local 4-H.

Tyler said MSU Extension is grateful for every volunteer in every program, but Mitchell and the other nine golden-anniversary honorees deserve special recognition.

Mitchell began volunteering with Michigan 4-H in 1976. She has been involved in many programs and events, including the Burr Oak 4-H Club.

As a long-time volunteer, Mitchell has provided critical support to St. Joseph County 4-H by serving a leader in foods, cake decorating, photography and many other areas, Tyler said.
