Daniel A. Halon, age 71, of Three Rivers, passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday, May 11, 2025 with his loving family around him. He was born on April 11, 1954 in Hammond, IN., the son of the late William “Bill” and Evelyn (Liesenfelt) Halon.
Dan grew up in the Lansing, IL area and attended schools there until he moved to Three Rivers. Dan continued his education at Glen Oaks Community College, Western Michigan University, and Mercy College in Detroit.
Dan, upon residing here, started working as a Respiratory Therapist at Three Rivers Hospital in the early 1970’s. It was there that he met the love of his life who also worked at the hospital, Jerilee Lytle. The two were married in 1980 and began running the Happy Landing Store from 1983 to 1990. Dan also worked at Swiss Valley Ski Resort in all facets. Dan and Jeri owned and ran the South Main Shell and Consumers Petroleum from 1994 until 2004. Following that time Dan was a well-known employee of Home Depot with his bright orange shoes and helping customers as a Master Gardener. During this time period Dan also worked in Real Estate for Cressy and Everett and at Hohner Funeral Home. Dan eventually took on a full-time position at Hohner Funeral Home where he spent the majority of his working years, where he cared for many families who he knew and loved.
Dan was a faithful member of the Three Rivers Lions Club, Ducks Unlimited, and the St. Joseph County Association of Realtors. His true passion was spending time with family and friends on Corey Lake, fishing, hunting mushrooms, pontooning, and teaching grandchildren how to fish and enjoy a good campfire.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Celeste Banet, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory, his wife of 45 years, Jerilee “Jeri” Halon, one daughter, Corey (Nic) Sharp; three sons, Matt (Shannon), Drew (Chantelle), and Nick (Chelsea) Halon; five beloved grandchildren, Amelie and Grey Halon, Makena and Will Sharp, and Heath Halon. Also surviving are brother-in-law, David Banet; nieces, Jacquie Banet and Denise Shore; and nephew, Douglas Banet. Many friends and family will remember Dan for his infectious smile and laugh which were unmistakable.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at 1:00 on Friday, May 16, 2025 at the Hohner Funeral Home with Pastor Derl Keefer officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Three Rivers Lions Club or to his family c/o Jeri Halon. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
I am so sorry to learn of Dan’s death. He was quite the character! I tried to keep you in my life (I was your matron of honor!) but there didn’t seem to be mutual interest. As years have passed I have thought of you often and our hilarious antics in the lab at the old hospital. I live by myself in Kalamazoo. You are in my thoughts, as well as your family. Take gentle care of yourself and give yourself the time you need. My email will be posted. If, in the future you would like to reconnect please do so. My arms and heart are wide open.
