Douglas D. Houck, age 67, of Sturgis, passed away Saturday evening, May 10, 2025, at his home.
He was born on May 18, 1957 in Sturgis, son of the late Allen W. and Mary (Robinson) Houck.
Doug was a lifelong Sturgis resident and graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1976.
Along with his father he owned and operated Houck Painting in Sturgis and was also employed by Boals Water Conditioning in Sturgis.
Doug was a practicing Buddhist.
Doug was a former firefighter with the Tri-Township Fire Department. He was a talented painter and had a gift for wood carving. Doug had a true appreciation for the outdoors and seemed to be in his real comfort zone when he was hunting or fishing.
He is survived by his brothers: Michael (Crystal) Houck and Jack (Cammy) Houck, both of Sturgis; sister: Katherine Maines of LaGrange; seven nieces and nephews, and seven great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother: Phillip Houck.
In honoring Doug’s wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00, Tuesday, May 20th, at Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St. in Sturgis. Memorial services celebrating the life of Douglas Houck will immediately follow the visitation at 2:00. A graveside committal will follow the service at Sturgis Memorial Gardens in Sturgis.
