Indiana warns of email scam

Indiana authorities are warning of a scam related to an e-mail that states a balance is due to the agency.

Indiana Department of Technology said messages from e-mail addresses belonging to the state of Indiana began arriving in inboxes earlier this week. Department of Technology officials said a contractor’s account was hacked, which was used to send the messages.

Toll Road officials said the fake e-mail indicates the recipient has unpaid toll charges. Amounts of the tolls vary and e-mails urge the recipient to visit a website to make a payment to avoid late fees.

Anyone who receives the email should ignore it and avoid clicking the link.
