Authorities are continuing their investigation into a shooting incident over the weekend at the Harvey House bar in Constantine.
Meanwhile, the business has started a GoFundMe collection to help support a pair of shooting victims and a person who suffered a broken leg in an attempt to flee from the gunfire.
According to a media release from Centreville-Constantine Police Chief Dan Thayer, the incident occurred at 11:50 p.m. Saturday.
Thayer said officers arrived and described the scene as chaotic, with several patrons fleeing the area on foot and in vehicles. Officers eventually learned there were three victims with gunshot wounds, and a fourth suffered a broken leg after jumping from a second-story deck.
Thayer said a 22-year-old suspect was taken into custody.
According to the Harvey House Facebook page, the situation was a targeted and isolated event. The Facebook page stated four individuals looked for and found the suspect, and proceeded to allegedly attack him.
Harvey House officials said the suspect claims to have acted in self-defense. Two of the three shots struck innocent bystanders.
In addition to the GoFundMe, a donation box is set up at the bar and will be dedicated to the three victims. The business plans to re-open Wednesday.
When you rely on someone’s Facebook page for information journalism is truly dead. I’d rather hear from the people actually tasked with this…..the Sheriff’s Department. So far just a lot of he said/she said but we all want to scam money thru GoFundMe.
When did thd Constantine Police Department become the Centreville-Constantine Police Department?
Centreville does not have a police department. The Village of Centreville contracts with Constantine for police coverage. Just like they used to contract with the County Sheriff’s Department. Was the Sheriff’s Department called the Centreville Police-County Sheriff’s Department? No. Is Centreville paying half of all Constantine Police Department costs? Not even close. So unless the Village of Centreville miraculously completely merges with Constantine, stop calling it the Centreville-Constantine Department. Constantine taxpayers deserve better.
