MDOT plans work on several state highways

Michigan Department of Transportation and contractor Pavement Maintenance Systems are investing more than $4 million to crack seal, chip seal, and fog seal 38.6 miles of five state highways in a three-county region starting this week.

The work centers on stretches of roadway in St. Joseph, Cass and Calhoun counties.

MDOT’s Nick Schirripa said area routes include M-216, from M-40 to U.S. 131 in Cass and St. Joseph counties, and U.S. 131 Business Route from the north intersection with U.S. 131 to Spring Street in Constantine Township.

Work will also take place on M-103, from the Michigan/Indiana state line to Cecelia Street in Mottville, and M-40 from Bradt Road to south of East Elm Street in Marcellus.

Schirripa said traffic regulators will guide the flow of traffic in areas with single-lane closures.

All work is expected to be completed by the end of August, he said.
