Robert Emory Leis, age 71, of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday evening, May 21, 2025, at his home.
He was born on April 9, 1954 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, son of the late Edwin Martin and Katherine (Greenleaves) Leis.
Bob resided in Sturgis since 1976 coming from Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
On June 17, 1983, he married Pamela Kay Deter in Sturgis.
Bob retired from I.A.C. in Mendon following 12 years of dedicated employment. Prior to joining I.A.C., he was with Grumman Olson for 17 years. He had also worked at Froh Community Home and the Clark Gas Station, both in Sturgis. Following his retirement he was a security guard at American Axle in Three Rivers for several years.
Bob took great pride in serving his country in the U.S. Army from February 7, 1980 – February 6, 1983, earning the rank of E-4. While in the Army he served as a supervisor to the Youth Corp.
He was a member of Gracepoint Baptist Church in Sturgis. He also held memberships with Neuman-Wenzel Post #73 American Legion and 40 & 8. He was a past member of Captain John J. Kelley Post 1355 VFW in Sturgis where he was a member of the honor guard and American Legion Riders. Bob was involved in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and enjoyed bowling and was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 41years: Pamela; son: Robert C. (Tami) Leis of Shipshewana; daughter: Lori L. Leis of Sturgis; grandchildren: Kaeleigh, and Morgan; sister: Margaret Pierce of Sturgis; brothers: Leonard (Karen) Jury of Ashtabula, Ohio, Maurey Leis of Johnstown, Pennsylvania and Charles Leis of Sturgis and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson: Aydan Leis and sister: Laura Mae Treese.
In Honoring Bob’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 on Wednesday, May 28th at Gracepoint Baptist Church, 26268 W. Chicago Rd. in Sturgis. Memorial services celebrating the life of Robert E. Leis will immediately follow the visitation at 5:00. The Rev. Greg Long will officiate. A continued time of fellowship and the sharing of a meal will follow the memorial service.
