An operating millage request sought by White Pigeon Community Schools was endorsed by district voters Tuesday.
District officials were asking registered voters to continue to levy an amount not to exceed 18 mills on all property except principal residence and other property exempted by law.
The measure was approved 512 to 379. Voters in the St. Joseph County portion of the district backed the proposal by a margin of 408-266. District residents in Cass County – specifically Porter and Mason townships – voted down the six-year proposal, 113 no to 104 yes.
But the setback wasn’t enough to doom the proposal thanks to the support from White Pigeon Township voters.
With the 18 mills approved, the district’s millage will raise more than $4.2 million annually.
