Angelo Nick Shutkas, 83

Angelo Nick Shutkas, age 83, of Three Rivers, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025 at home, surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Kastoria, Greece, Angelo was the son of Nicholas and Alexandria (Papavasilios) Shutkas. His journey from Greece to America as an orphan embodied the courage and determination that would characterize his entire life.

While still learning the English language, Angelo was drafted and proudly served his country as a Vietnam Veteran in the U.S. Army, carrying the honor of that service throughout his days. His work ethic was legendary—first as a furrier for Three Rivers Furs, then dedicating many faithful years to GM/American Axle and Manufacturing until his retirement.

In April 1970, in Chicago, Angelo married his soulmate, Eva, after meeting only 10 days prior. For 55 beautiful years, Eva and Angelo were truly inseparable, their love story a testament to devotion and partnership. Together, they built a family filled with love, raising two children who became the pride of their hearts: Sandra (Timothy) Abshire and Michael Shutkas. Their legacy continues through two beloved granddaughters, Stephanie and Jennifer Abshire, who brought immeasurable joy to their “pappouli’s” life.

A selfless and subtle man, Angelo found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. Whether visiting South Haven,  taking leisurely drives to Happy Landing, or sharing coffee and conversation with dear friends, he understood that the most precious moments were often the quietest ones. His generosity knew no bounds—Angelo would truly give the shirt off his back even if it was the only one he owned.

Angelo was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister, joining them now in eternal peace. He leaves behind his devoted wife Eva, his children Sandra and Michael, granddaughters Stephanie and Jennifer, and several nieces and nephews who will forever cherish his memory.

Angelo’s life was a quiet masterpiece of love, service, and selflessness. Though he spoke softly, his actions thundered with kindness. He leaves behind not just a family, but a legacy of how to live with grace, humility, and an open heart.

A memorial service celebrating Angelo’s life will be held with full military honors on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 2:00 at Hohner Funeral Home, 1004 Arnold St.,, Three Rivers, with Fr. Bryce Buffenbarger officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Angelo’s memory may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project, reflecting his lifelong commitment to supporting fellow veterans. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
