Betty J. Miller, age 92, of Sturgis, and former longtime resident of Marshall, went to live with her Lord and Savior Thursday morning, June 12, 2025, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born May 26, 1933 in Battle Creek, daughter of the late John and Ethel (Leffew) Eakins.
Mrs. Miller’s early life was spent in Battle Creek where she graduated from High School and furthered her education at Kellogg Community College. In 1965 she moved her family to Marshall.
On February 10, 1979, she married Edson H. Miller in Marshall. He preceded her in death.
Two of her early jobs were at the Battle Creek Sandwich Shop and F.W. Woolworth in Battle Creek. Betty began her health care career at Oakland Hospital in Marshall. She started as a nurse’s aide and worked her way up to department head for the respiratory therapy department.
Betty loved the Lord and while living in Battle Creek she was a member of Level Park Wesleyan Church where she served as Sunday School Superintendent, director of Junior Church, and VBS. In 2002 Betty was a founding member of Grace Baptist Church in Marshall serving as the first church treasurer. In 2006 she moved to Sturgis, and in 2013 formed a Bible study group at Fawn River Apartments where she resided for 19 years.
She is survived by her son: Joseph (Beverly) Adair of Amelia, Ohio; daughter: Dianne (Richard) Blosser, Jr. of Bronson; six grandchildren: Roy Adair, Eric (Christina) Adair, Brooke (Donnie Kimble) Webb, Cedric (Erin Christine) Webb, Elizabeth (Keyby) Ileus, and Rachel (Scott) Wilson 10 great grandchildren: Aubrey, Orion, Camellia, Jayden, Amayiah, Ariana, Jaxson, Sloane, Marlowe and Kaysen; brother: Delbert Eakins of Battle Creek and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, and six sisters.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 Friday, June 20th at Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd. in Sturgis. A visitation will also be held from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 21st at Grace Baptist Church, 500 Cosmopolitan Ave. in Marshall where funeral services celebrating the life of Betty Miller will immediately follow the visitation at 11:00. Pastors Richard Durand and Brandon Crawford will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Marshall.
