Colon schools considers offer for new superintendent

Colon Community Schools appears poised to select a retired Lenawee County educator to serve as its next superintendent.

Board members agreed this week to move forward with consideration to offering the post to Richard Hilderley. He became superintendent of Tecumseh Public Schools in October 2019 and retired in June 2024.

Earlier in his career, Hilderley was superintendent of Bronson Community Schools for two-and-a-half years before he returned to Tecumseh.

A native of the Lenawee County community of Clinton, Hilderley will be at the center of an open house planned by Colon Community Schools next week. It takes place 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday at Colon Elementary.

District officials encourage the public to meet with Hilderley and complete a digital feedback survey. The survey can be found on the district’s website.

Board members plan to meet in special session at 6 p.m. Wednesday to review feedback and reflect on their formal interview before making a final decision about offering the job to Hilderley.
