David Thomas Pueschel, age 62, of Sturgis, passed away Monday, June 16, 2025 at his home, leaving behind a legacy of generosity, humor, and dedication to those he loved.
Born on August 13, 1962, David stood tall in both stature and spirit—with a presence as big as his heart. Known as “Papa” to his grandchildren, he was a gentle giant whose booming laugh could fill a room when he found something truly funny. Dave lived a life marked by hard work, varied interests, and a deep love for his family, especially his eight grandchildren, whom he cherished above all.
He was a lifelong Sturgis resident and graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1980. He furthered his education at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant.
Over the years, Dave brought his talents and energy to many places, including Abbott Laboratories, Owens Illinois, Cobalt Tires, and VCI. Most recently, he served as a building project manager at Menards, a role that suited his practical skills and hands-on nature.
Dave’s life was full of curiosity and passion. He loved to cook—his signature German chocolate pie was a family favorite—and at one point worked as a cook at Prairie Lake. He enjoyed spending his time at home, at an auction, or on the back of a motorcycle in his younger years. A keen reader, bicycle rider, bow hunter, and antique enthusiast, Dave found joy in simple pleasures and meaningful moments.
He had a long-standing interest in real estate and took pride in helping others find their homes through Century 21 and Heckaman Homes. He also spent time as an announcer at horse shows and loved attending youth and college sporting events—cheering on his children, niece, and nephew with enthusiasm and of course his Michigan State Spartans. In his community, he served as an umpire and referee, bringing fairness and spirit to the games he officiated.
A man of Christian faith, Dave lived with a spirit of service and compassion. He volunteered with his church group in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, helping with cleanup and rebuilding efforts—a reflection of his desire to help others in times of need. Dave did his best to help those around him and was always willing to lend a hand.
He leaves behind his mother, Theresa Weaver; his children, Holly (Dan) Carmichael, Katelyn Pueschel, and Michaela Pueschel; his beloved grandchildren, Dexter, Maggie, Miah, Hunter, Janie, Eleanor, Charlotte, and Matteo; his sister, Kimberly (Dan) Ditto; his niece and nephew, Brooke Ditto and Darek Ditto; his aunt, Marge Swihart and uncle: Thomas Schumacher.
He was preceded in death by his father, David John Pueschel, and his granddaughter, Rosemary Beatrice Carmichael; uncle: John Pueschel; great grandparents: Thomas and Bonnie Schumacher and Ernest and Margaret Pueschel and cousin: Steven Semrau.
Dave’s presence and hearty laugh will be missed by those who knew and loved him. His memory lives on in the stories shared and the quiet moments of care he gave throughout his life.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, June 27th at Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E.
