Dolores D. Ware, age 91, of Sturgis, passed away Saturday afternoon, May 31, 2025, at her home.
She was born April 27, 1934 in Chicago, daughter of the late John and Helen (Butrimas) Pokorny.
Dolores resided in Sturgis for the past 70 years. Her early life was spent in Chicago.
On May 22, 1954, she married Richard I. Ware at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis. He preceded her in death December 21, 2020.
Dolores worked as a beautician until the birth of her children when she became a stay-at-home mom. From that time on, she dedicated her life as a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church where for many years was a member of Holy Angels Altar Society. She was active with A.R.C. and Compassionate Friends, and a graduate of Glen Oaks Community College. Dolores enjoyed playing cards and was possibly the last surviving member of the Thursday Bridge Club. She loved sharing a cup coffee with Dick at area coffee shops and time spent with her family.
She is survived by her daughters: Debra (Doug) Miller and Ann (John Purcell, Jr.) Ware, both of Sturgis; grandchildren: Jym (Katie) Miller of Grand Rapids, Alan (Alley) Albarran of Sturgis, Taylor Albarran of Sturgis, Kimberly Davis of Sturgis, Victoria (Dan) Hadsay of New York, New York and Annie Russell of Biddeford, Maine; great grandchildren: Evie Miller and Winnie Miller; sisters-in-law: Barbara Ware of Sturgis and Janice Hubbard of Constantine and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; daughters: Victoria Russell and Jennifer Ware; sisters: Betty Griffin and Judy Ash; brother: James Pokorny and grand son-in-law: Desmond Davis.
In honoring Mrs. Ware’s wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 11th at Holy Angels Catholic Church where the Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Dolores D. Ware will immediately follow the visitation at 11:00. The Rev. Father Andrew Raczkowski celebrant. Graveside committal of the ashes will follow the Mass at Sturgis Memorial Gardens Columbarium.
