State police car rear-ended in Kalamazoo County

Two state police troopers and occupants of two other vehicles escaped injury after a patrol car was rear-ended in eastern Kalamazoo County last week.

According to a department media release, the incident occurred at 3 p.m. Thursday on westbound I-94 near mile marker 87.

A state police patrol car was parked on the shoulder while troopers rendered assistance to occupants of a car experiencing engine trouble. Despite its overhead lights activated, the patrol car was struck from behind by the driver of a Dodge Dart. The driver told authorities he lost control of his vehicle, which then ran off the highway and struck the law-enforcement vehicle.

Troopers sustained minor injuries. The driver responsible for the collision was cited for speeding and driving on a suspended license, authorities said.
