A school playground in Saint Joseph County has been recognized for its accessibility.
According to Soliant, a health-care employment company, the playground at Congress Elementary in Sturgis made the top-ten list for Best Inclusive Playgrounds in America.
The playground was ranked fourth out of 10 playgrounds included in the survey.
According to the write-up in Soliant, the 10 showcased playgrounds tell a story of determination – from student-led fundraising campaigns to district-wide equity initiatives – that prioritized inclusion from the ground up.
Congress Elementary’s playground was redesigned in 2019, according to Superintendent Art Ebert. He said the playground surface is accessibility friendly and made of tile. It is easy to replace if it becomes damaged, he said.
