Sturgis Department of Public Safety responded to two different fires within the past week.
According to a department media release, fire officials were called at 8:30 p.m. June 21 to the 700 block of Friar Tuck Drive to a residence on fire.
Heavy smoke was coming from the garage extending into the single-story home when firefighters arrived.
Damage was kept to a minimum and fire personnel were able to rescue a dog from inside the residence.
The next event occurred at 2:30 p.m. Monday, when firefighters were called to the 300 block of South Jefferson Street in response to a house on fire. Upon arrival, firefighters noticed heavy smoke coming from the second floor of the structure. The blaze was put out quickly enough that it did not spread to other areas of the house.
Two dogs were rescued from inside the residence.
