An 18-month saga centering on St. Joseph County’s current and previous prosecuting attorneys appears to be over.
Current prosecutor Deb Davis over the weekend issued a media release, stating she recently took the initiative to resolve a complaint lodged with the Attorney Grievance Commission’s office. The matter, she said, was addressed by virtue of a consent resolution, a step taken to avoid prolonging a process that she said had already consumed significant time, energy and resources.
Davis said the consent resolution was adopted by the Attorney Discipline Board without the necessity of a hearing, testimony or independent findings by the board. Notably, it included dismissal of accusations by her predecessor, David Marvin, and instead reflected the acknowledgment of differences of opinion between the judiciary and the prosecution in a complex, quickly evolving domestic-violence matter, Davis said.
The issue arose in January 2024, when Davis was employed as an assistant under then-prosecuting attorney David Marvin. It unfolded during a case overseen by District Court Judge Jeff Middleton.
With the latest step taken by Davis, it appears the matter has been settled.
