Constantine approves new station resolution

Constantine Village Council members recently passed a resolution leading to the development of a new fire station.

During their June meeting, council members OK’d the resolution, which will allow the newly formed Building Authority to issue bonds up to $2.5 million. The new station is planned to be built at 175 N. Washington St.

Congressman Tim Walberg has offered a $1.5 million grant to help fund the project, village manager Mark Honeysett said.

The Building Authority will own the building and lease it to the village. The village will pay the principal and interest on the bonds.

Honeysett said if the village’s special fire assessment is set at 2.5 mills, it will likely cover the yearly cost of paying the bonds off. The final cost of the new fire department won’t be known until a bid is accepted. Once the debt on the fire station is paid off, the village will have full ownership.

  1. The Village will not own the property or building but the village taxpayers will owe millions for it? And be forever responsible for its upkeep? Without control? No say, no recourse, just foot the bill?
    Welcome to the new America.

  2. They haven’t brought in a project at predicted cost since I’ve been breathing. But they’re masters at flogging the taxpayer.
