Constantine Village Council members recently received an update on the municipality’s new wastewater treatment plant.
Joseph Benjamin, an engineer at Fleis & VandenBrink, provided council members more than 40 before-and-after photos of the refurbished plant, which was last in use in the early 1990s.
Constantine has since pumped its effluent to the Three Rivers treatment plant.
Benjamin said the Constantine facility is scheduled to begin treating wastewater next week, though it will take several weeks to seed and stabilize microbiology to provide proper treatment.
During start up, effluent will continue to be pumped to the lift station for treatment in Three Rivers, and once the effluent meets National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System criteria, the village bypass will be disconnected and treated effluent will be pumped into the St. Joseph River.
The process is expected to be complete by the end of summer, Benjamin said.
