David Alfred Prouty of White Pigeon, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025 at the age of 88. Born on May 19, 1937, in Constantine, David lived a long, full life marked by service to his country, love for his family, and a lifelong connection with nature.
He is survived by his loving partner, Sonya West, who stood by his side for many cherished years. David was a beloved brother to Deanna Berchiatti and Cathy Helman, and a devoted father to his daughters Elizabeth Prouty, Virginia Prouty, and Donna Wright (Keith). His legacy lives on through his grandchildren Christopher Lewis (Beth), Gary Lewis, Charity Wright, Brianna Frazier (Stephen), Erick Prouty, Seth Wright, and Nicole Prouty, and his great-grandchildren, Kodi Lewis, Tyler Mullins, Gabriel Willhoite, Bethany Willhoite, Lillian Lewis, Truett Frazier, and Halle Frazier. David was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Mary Prouty, and his granddaughter, Amanda Mullins.
David was a quiet and steady presence in the lives of many. Beneath his boisterous demeanor was a boundless well of energy and a love for living life to the fullest. His passion was for driving fast, sailing far, and flying high, always chasing the horizon with enthusiasm and joy. David proudly served in the US Navy from 1955 to 1958 on the USS Cassin Young. He treasured quiet time gardening and fishing, was a committed Green Bay Packers fan, and cherished the time he spent driving and attending car shows with his beloved 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1. Those who knew David will remember his adventurous heart, tireless spirit, and hardworking approach to life.
Services will be held at Farrand Funeral Home on August 8, 2025, with visitation at 1:00 and the funeral service at 2:00. All who knew and loved David are welcome to attend and celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plant a seed or tree in his name, enjoy the open road, or cast a fishing line in his memory.
