Diane Evelyn McKelvey of Colon, age 87, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, July 17th, 2025. She was born to Edward and Merle (Pickert) Ward on March 23rd, 1938 in Chicago.
Diane grew up in Elgin, IL. She graduated from Elgin High School, MacMurray College, and Western Illinois State University. Diane proudly worked alongside her parents operating Wards Photo lab for decades and later served as the Colon Township Supervisor for multiple terms. She enjoyed judging for Miss Michigan Pageants, actively supporting the Reform Party of the United States of America during the Ross Perot presidential campaign, everything horses – but especially her racehorses, reading, living the lake life, hosting 4th of July gatherings, being the matriarch of the Shoreline Manor Neighborhood, and spending time with friends and family. Diane had a sense of humor and unique personality that will be greatly missed.
Diane was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 38 years, Alec McKelvey; sister, Marilyn Keefe; and both parents, Edward and Merle.
She is survived by her children, Todd (Maria) Stevens and Kelli (Mike) Poortenga; grandchildren, Brandon (Kaity) Poortenga and Kyle (Kayla) Poortenga; great grandchildren, Kolter and Kash; and many more adored family members and friends.
Family will greet friends and relatives from 12:00 until 2:00 on Wednesday, July 23rd, 2025, at Schipper Funeral Home Ltd, 308 S Blackstone Ave, Colon, MI 49040. The funeral service will be celebrated at 2:00 immediately following visitation. Pastor Bruce Wilson will be officiating. Interment at Lakeside Cemetery.
