A busy intersection in Florence Township has been targeted by the St. Joseph County Road Commission as the site for a roundabout.
According to John Lindsey, road commission manager, the agency plans to start developing the circular route at the intersection of Lutz Road and Centreville-Constantine Road later this month.
Lindsey said the matter was discussed during the road commission’s June board meeting.
The roundabout will feature a single-lane circular route outside a 15-foot-wide concrete center to accommodate larger vehicles, such as semis and farm equipment. It will be designed to keep the flow of traffic moving but also present a safer intersection compared to the current, four-way stop, Lindsey said.
He noted that 90 percent of the project’s $500,000 cost was secured through federal funds.
It’s not about safety. That intersection has not had the accidents many other county intersections have had. It’s about nabbing large program funds to pad their resumes. Private, public and electioneering. They ignore the most dangerous and deadliest roadways no matter how often or loud the public objects, no matter the proof in statistics and pictures in front of them. Where is Doge when they’re actually needed!
They don’t take care of the roads as it is. Want to guess how well a rural unwanted roundabout is going to be maintained? And the cost of upkeep?
They said the same bogus safety crap about the Constantine Bypass. More crashes and deaths on the bypass around Constantine than when traffic came through on the main street. Even during school. But don’t let truth get in your way.
