Leobardo “Leo” Valdez, age 44, of Sturgis, passed away on Wednesday morning, July 2, 2025, in LaGrange County, Indiana, due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
He was born on November 29, 1980, in Zinapécuaro, Michoacán, Mexico, the beloved son of the late Higinio and Cristina (Morquecho) Valdez.
Leo made Sturgis his home for the past 27 years after moving from Mexico. On June 25, 2004, he married the love of his life, Maria Lizeth Nava Guzman, in Centreville.
A hardworking man, Leo spent most of his career in the RV industry and construction. He had a natural mechanical talent and loved working on cars. Always willing to lend a hand, Leo was known for his generous spirit and his love of helping others.
Leo found joy in the simple things—fishing, kayaking, and riding his motorcycle. He never turned down ice cream and always had room for a scoop or two. But above all, his greatest happiness came from spending time with his family.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Maria Lizeth; his daughters, Elizabet Robertson, Alexiss Valdez, and Lea Valdez; and his siblings: Consuelo (Emilio) Espinal, Yolanda (Antonio) Castro, Saul (Maribel) Valdez, Belen (Guillermo) Servin, Florentino (Alicia) Valdez, Eva (Eduardo) Lopez, Lorena Valdez, Maria Valdez, Alejandro Valdez, Adrian (Blanca) Valdez, and Mireya (Rigoberto) Ortiz. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, July 5th, from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Grace Christian Fellowship Church, 300 Timothy St., Sturgis. A Celebration of Life will take place at the church on Wednesday, July 9th, beginning at 6:00 P.M. with Pastor Luke Eicher officiating.
The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.
