A Clare County man was sentenced last week in Centreville for sexually assaulting a relative two decades ago in St. Joseph County.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said 69-year-old Geral Whitney will serve up to 30 years in prison after he was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Paul Stutesman. Whitney was found guilty by a jury in May of one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Authorities said the Harrison resident sexually assaulted a relative in 2005 and was charged in 2023.
Nessel stated in a media release that the sentence sends a clear message that no matter how much time has passed, justice is possible for sexual assault survivors.
