Missing kayaker found

A kayaker on the Fawn River who was reported missing last week was eventually found.

Sheriff Chad Spence said authorities were notified about the situation around 7 o’clock Wednesday night. A multi-agency search effort led to the eventual discovery of the person.

A large-scale search and rescue operation was launched, involving multiple agencies, including Indiana Department of Natural Resources, White Pigeon Police officers, Lifecare and St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Dive Rescue team.

Also, drone technology and ground crews were summoned to the area.

The kayaker was found after a search that lasted several hours, Spence said. The kayaker was treated at the scene and was well enough to not require hospital aid.

A department media release did not state the kayaker’s gender, age, community of residence or location of where the rescue occurred.

  1. What’s with all the No real information press releases? Taxpayers ponied up how much money but No identifying information provided even after the fact? This has become the new standard. Remember Right to Know? Journalism? Who, What, When, Where and How?
