Prosecutor’s office adds assistant attorney

St. Joseph County Prosecutor Deb Davis recently announced the addition of assistant prosecuting attorney Angelique Camfield.

The addition of Camfield marks what Davis called a step in the right direction toward fulfilling her campaign promise to rebuild the prosecutor’s office into a fully staffed, high-functioning legal team.

Davis said she remains focused on the work voters elected her to do.

When Davis took office in January, the prosecutor’s office was operating with only two licensed attorneys in an office historically staffed with five, she said. With the hiring of Camfield, the office is now nearing full staffing levels for the first time in more than three years, Davis said.

She said Camfield brings experience from private practice in criminal defense and prior prosecutor roles in Calhoun, Allegan and Kalamazoo counties.

Camfield joins a veteran team comprised of Davis, Josh Robare and Gary Gabry.

A fifth team member, Abby Stoll of Sherwood, is preparing for Bar licensure and currently practices part-time under supervision with the intent to stay on indefinitely upon admission to the State Bar of Michigan.

Davis said she is also seeking approval from the Board of Commissioners to add a Prosecutorial Investigator role by year’s end to enhance case review, follow-up and trial prep.
