Upcoming M-66 project in Sturgis

Sturgis municipal officials have provided feedback on an impending road project involving M-66 north of the city.

City engineer Barry Cox said MDOT offered four concepts for the reconstruction of M-66 from U.S. 12 north to Lafayette Street. The project is targeted for the 2029 road construction season.

Cox said the preferred plan includes a 47-foot-wide roadway, which would feature a center-turn lane, as well as bike lanes of almost 10 feet wide on both sides of the route.

He said in conjunction with the reconstruction project, the city will take advantage of the disarray, and replace water lines and upgrade the storm-sewer drainage system in that area as the project is underway.
