Claude “Ron” Moyer, age 77, of Leonidas, passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. He was born in Three Rivers on November 6, 1947 the son of Shirley and Barbara (Hoover) Moyer. Ron attended Portage Central High School. A few years later, he married Delores Truckey in Sherwood, MI on November 11, 1967. For almost 20 years, Ron operated heavy equipment working for Balkema Excavating; following that he would help and do odd jobs with a local lawn care service; following that he would drive pallets around for local saw mills.
If it had fur, scales, or feathers, Ron was involved. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and trapper. He loved fishing with a passion; cruising the waters of St. Joseph County and Lake Erie; and to this day only a select few know where his “honey hole” is. He was an excellent hunter and even took a trip to Canada to hunt bear. Ron would even claim 1st place on many occasions shooting clay pigeons in Factoryville. His home is his trophy case, displaying the best of the best catches, shots, and traps. Ron also gave back to the outdoors, rehabbing lonely/sick animals back to their full potential and loving and training his hunting dogs. He would often be seen tending to his produce in his garden. As his family stated, his church was the outdoors. Ron was also involved with the LCAG, putting on carnivals, gatherings, dances, and parades for Leonidas (with a very unique group of loving people). Ron loved his little town, he loved the outdoors, and he loved his family.
Ron is survived by his 4 daughters; Rhonda Moyer, Robyn (Willie) Roop, Jodie Warn, and Amy Taylor; grandchildren; Austin Moyer (Paige Murphy), Morgan (Adam) Everett, Bradley Yoder (Kinsey Malicki), Megan Warn (Gavin Martinez), Kristopher (Kaylee) Roop, Matthew (Isabella) Roop, Savannah Taylor (Kodie Fields), and Emily Taylor (Jake Bower); great-grandchildren; Zoey, Zailey, Bram, Paisleigh, Flynn, Tucker, and Sutton; and many nieces, nephews, and extended families. He was preceded in passing by his parents; Shirley and Barbara Moyer; son-in-law; Joseph Warn; his brothers Larry, Fred, and Henry Moyer; and his wife; Delores Moyer.
Visitation for Ron will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8p at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at 10am at the funeral home with Pastor Keith Kettwich officiating. Following the service, burial will take place at Leonidas Cemetery. It is suggested that donations be made to Gentiva Hospice. Condolences and memories may be expressed to his family at eickhofffuneralhome.com
