County commission to consider purchase of a new COA dishwasher

St. Joseph County Commission’s Executive Committee fielded a request Monday for a budget amendment from Commission on Aging Director Pam Riley.

Riley requested funding for a new, industrial dishwasher for the agency’s Three Rivers campus.

She said the current dishwasher was purchased used and is 40 years old. A quote she recently received for servicing the dishwasher came back at $3,200.

Considering the age of the dishwasher and its likely need for additional service down the road, the COA would instead prefer to purchase a replacement, Riley said.

A new, taller dishwasher will run a cycle with cleaning and sanitation in about 90 seconds, Riley said. COA’s three-person kitchen staff currently has to wash and sanitize as many as 50 trays a day in a three-bin sink.

Commissioners recommended a $26,627 quote for a new dishwasher meeting all the needs of COA’s kitchen staff. The matter is to appear before commissioners for a vote during their Aug. 19 monthly board meeting.
