Donna Jean Johnson, age 71, of South Bend, passed away at her home on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 after a long illness. She was born on August 25, 1953 in Sturgis, the daughter of Earl and Ethel (Middaugh) Hunt. Donna attended Sturgis High School and was part of the 1978 graduating class. On June 9, 1978 she married David Johnson in Sturgis.
Donna would often be seen outdoors tending to her yard and beautiful flowers. She was a family-oriented person, spending most of her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Donna was known for sending greeting cards for every single occasion, never missing a birthday or holiday for anyone she knew. She was a caring person, providing comfort food to those in need (her famous goulash to be exact). Her home during the holidays was always a sight to see; decorating it to its fullest potential, especially around Halloween time. She enjoyed her loving dogs, her bearded dragon, Johnny Depp movies, and anything with vampires. But make no mistake, she loved her family the most, especially her grandchildren.
Donna is survived by her husband of 47 years, David Johnson; 4 children; Jeremy (Jennifer) Edgington, Christopher (Michelle) Edgington, Nicholus (Jen) Johnson, and Abby (Ryan) Galloway; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings; Peggy (Ron) Sanford, Teresa (John) Kuhl, Ron Hunt, Earl Hunt, and Joey Hunt. She was preceded in passing by her parents, Earl and Ethel Hunt; her sisters, Susie and Delores Hunt; and her great-grandson, Easton Edgington.
Visitation for Donna will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025 from 12pm until 2pm at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon, with funeral services beginning at 2pm with Pastor David Grimm officiating. Following the service cremation will be conducted. It is suggested that donations made in Donna’s name be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
