St. Joseph County Road Commission officials have announced the opening of its new roundabout at a busy intersection in Florence Township.
The feature is at the intersection of Lutz Road and Centreville-Constantine Road.
Agency director John Lindsey said lighting at the intersection has not yet been installed but is expected to be completed by the end of next week. Lindsey said the work will require a one-day closure of the eastbound exit onto Centreville-Constantine Road.
The roundabout features a single-lane circular route outside a 15-foot-wide concrete center to accommodate larger vehicles.
Ninety percent of the project’s $500,000 cost was secured through federal funds.

When the federal infrastructure bill was passed, it was not meant for unneeded crap like this, but for fixing our roads and bridges which remain poor or hazardous. Pony up officials and media! How many accidents happened at this intersection in the last 10-20 years? Another 1/2 million taxpayer dollars thrown away for someone’s political resume and insider construction contracts.
