Doris Borgert, 91

Doris I. Borgert, age 91, of Sturgis, passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, 2025 at Three Rivers Health.

She was born Oct. 1, 1934 in Parkville, MI  a daughter of the late Ralph and Zella (Yunker) Knauss.

Doris has lived in St. Joseph County, Michigan all of her life.

On March 1, 1953 at the West Mendon Church, she married F. Keith Borgert. He preceded her in death May 19, 2019.

She had worked at the Glen Oaks Community College Bookstore, the Little Red Shoe House, Borgert’s Bakery, on the farm baling hay and milking cows, and taking care of her grandchildren, which she enjoyed the most as they were the love of her life.

Doris was a member of the Nottawa United Methodist Church and enjoyed reading, cooking and baking, playing dominoes, flowers, plants, trees,  and when her and Keith were younger, playing cards in a card club.

Surviving are two daughters: Cindy Borgert and Sue (Thomas) Roach, both of Sturgis; 1 son: Keith L. Borgert of Sturgis; grandchildren: Alex Borgert, Blake (Lauren) Roach, Koal (Hannah) Roach, Cassandra Roach, Morgan Macfarlane, Scotty Macfarlane and fiancé: Elisa, Maeve Macfarlane, Michael (Ashley) Estep, Cameron (Stephanie) Estep, and Ashton Estep; great-grandchildren: Finley, and twins: Lily and Elouise; 2 sons-in-law: Scott (Janet) Macfarlane of Portage, and Alexander “Sandy” Miller of Sturgis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 daughters: Sheila Macfarlane and Cathy Miller, a daughter-in-law: Danyelle Borgert, and 3 brothers: Stanley, Paul, and Max Knauss.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, Oct. 10, 2025 at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091.

Services celebrating the life of Doris I. Borgert will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the Nottawa United Methodist Church, 25838 M-86, Nottawa, MI 49075 with Pastor Ralph Knauss, officiating. Fellowship will follow the services and Interment will take place later at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon.

Memorial donations may be directed to the Nottawa United Methodist Church, 25838 M-86, Nottawa, MI 49075, envelopes are available at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis, MI who have been entrusted with the arrangements.
