Holiday promotion encourages shopping local in Vicksburg

A promotion to boost holiday commerce in downtown Vicksburg is making its debut in 2025.

Vicksburg Village Manager Jim Mallery provided details related to “Burg Bucks” to members of the Village Council Oct. 20. The program is offered thanks to a $25,000 grant the municipality secured through the Vicksburg Foundation.

Mallery said Burg Bucks is a gift-card program specific to village of Vicksburg businesses.

The value is realized, he said, through a 25-percent bonus card with every gift card purchase. As an example, Mallery said if individuals purchase a $100 gift card under the program, they will receive an additional $25 beyond the amount of their $100 purchase.

Mallery said if $100,000 in retail sales are made through the program, then that equates to $125,000 in revenue.

As of Oct. 20, nearly two dozen downtown business have agreed to take part in the program.

Burg Bucks and the bonus will be available and secured online, Mallery noted.
