Lexann Kay Modert, age 52, of Bronson, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Beacon Kalamazoo Hospital.
Lexann was born on February 3, 1973 in Sturgis, the daughter of Earl and Janice (Johnson) Modert. She was a proud graduate of Bronson High School, Class of 1991.
Lexann was a talented artist and a kind, free-spirited soul. She was known for the beautiful murals she painted in homes and businesses throughout the area—and several in Alaska. She was a proud mom to her beautiful daughter, Willow, who was the light of her life.
Her second love was music and dancing. Lexann was always singing a tune, moving to the rhythm, and bringing joy to those around her. She was also a wonderful cook, and Willow especially loved her famous apple pies. A passionate gardener with a true green thumb, Lexann could make anything grow.
As the youngest of five children, Lexann had a spark and sass that matched her wild, creative spirit. She will be deeply missed for her artistry, warmth, and loving touch. In keeping with her giving nature, Lexann chose to be an organ donor through Gift of Life Michigan, allowing parts of her to continue to live on and help others.
Lexann is survived by her beloved daughter, Willow Morgan Modert of Bronson; her parents, Earl and Janice Modert of Bronson; her siblings: Neil (Kathy) Modert of Bronson, Laure (Jay) Bertrand of Bronson, Lula (Jim) Sexton of Union City, and Lyshell Ludwick of Bronson; along with nieces and nephews: Jason, Elishia, Neil, Ericia, April, Jake, Gabe, Earl, Chelsea, Jordan, and Larissa; and several aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents and her brother-in-law, Brad Ludwick.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. The Modert family will receive friends and relatives from 4:00 to 6:30 PM on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Schipper Funeral Home, Ltd. in Colon, with a memorial service celebrating Lexann’s life beginning at 6:30 PM. Interment of her ashes will take place at a later date in Adams Cemetery, Bronson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Willow Modert’s education fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
