Man sentenced in tree theft case

A Cass County man convicted of stealing a full-grown walnut tree earlier this year has been sentenced.

According to WSBT News, Trever Wallace, 36, will serve up to 10 years in prison. He pled guilty in August to larceny over $1,000.

Cass County and Michigan State Police officials said the standing tree was felled Jan. 4 in the 61000 block of Old Mill Road in Cass County’s Pokagon Township.

Wallace and a 52-year-old man were taken into custody and charged with larceny after attempting to sell the tree at a location in Colon Township.

Value of the tree was estimated around $2,000, according to authorities.

Investigators said Wallace had nine prior felony convictions, most related to incidents of theft. At the time of his arrest in January, he was found to be in violation of parole.

  1. The punishment only fits the crime when they want it to. Rapists get shorter sentences than this.
